By His Grace
8 To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, 10 so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.
The Apostle Paul continues to preach to the church in Ephesus with a strong word about grace. Even has a persecutor of Christians to later on a prisoner for Christ, Paul realizes that God’s hand of grace has been upon his life ever since the beginning. It is due to his relationship with Jesus that Paul has access and insight to God’s promise and will for his life. He goes on to share that this promise is intended for all of humanity: for those who are willing to step out in faith and believe. It was by grace that the Lord appointed Paul to carry out the works of His ministry in a fashion that was unique and unlike any. What captures me is Paul’s humility in terms of recognizing the author and that it was by God that he was freely given what he needed to perform the work of the Saints. Paul acknowledges that even in his inferiority that the Lord chose him to be used for a specific purpose and plan. This privilege of being able to take all that was given was in order to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to those who were in darkness and in need of His light. In exchange for our humility in Jesus comes a divine confidence to proclaim the glory of His name into the ends of the earth.
I am astounded by the posture and position of Paul’s heart and spirit.. that even though once could perceive him as being one of the Bible’s all time greats because of his conversion, his boldness, his experiences, his testimonies, his wisdom, his fruit, the thousands saved, the chapters written.. the list goes on and on.. but even though Paul could easily boast about his accomplishments, written New York bestseller autobiography and books, rise to fame though television, movies, and media.. he recognized that it was by His grace that was freely given to Him that his sins were pardoned so that He could partake in being a minister of Jesus Christ! Though it it truly by His grace that I am redeemed as a child of God, I often forget that I am where I am not by my own efforts but by the love of the Lord. I found myself waking up early yesterday frantically working on side projects on a day that was supposed to be designated as my personal Sabbath. The Lord stopped me in my tracks early on in the day and breathed these words in my spirit: “Enjoy My grace!” I know specifically that God was telling me that it’s not by my works, but its through His blood that I don’t need to prove myself or secure my lot. That specific word helped me close my laptop, enjoy fellowship with friends, and enjoy His presence without the need of having to do or accomplish anything. It then dawned upon me that it was through Paul’s humility that enabled Him through God’s strength do the impossible in a spirit of rest, restoration, and renewal.
Thank you Father God for using Paul as an example of one who not only recognized Your love and grace, but He lived by them and that You honored that by giving him access to the Holy Spirit. Help me release my need to strive, produce, and accomplish. Thank you for slowing me down in my tracks, allowing me to see Your goodness and breathe Your peace through the midst of my insecurities, and anxieties.
