When Resistance Comes Our Way
The Apostle Paul speaks in the book of Titus about how we as believers of Christ are to conduct ourselves in the midst of spiritual battle. He first affirms that the Lord has assigned those who have gone before us who are wiser, more experienced.. and we are to trust the intentions of their hearts. The greatest challenge we have representing Jesus are usually in times of busyness, stress, opposition, and hardship. These are almost the proving grounds that the Lord will use to test our character. It’s in these times we will either see the best or worst of others and ourselves. Paul urges that we are to be counterculture, and that in every circumstance we are to show the love of God through our attitude, actions, intentions, and heart. It’s when we can move forward in faith that the Lord partners with us through moving in His strength and guidance. God will most honor our faith when we remain devoted to loving Him and others even as resistance is coming our way. Paul also warns us not to get caught up wasting time and energy in senseless arguments especially with those who thrive on creating controversy solely for the sake of controversy. Rather he calls us to focus more on releasing the love of God and stay focused on our mission of spreading the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
During my earlier days of faith, it was quite easy to walk defeated when I would receive a lot of tension for proclaiming my love for Christ. Whether it be through family, friends, strangers, unexpected life circumstances, even bad decisions and choices, my walk with Jesus could be described as a directionless dingy being tossed left and right through the storms. As I reflect back, I could see how the Lord has helped me formulate my spirit to more of a battleship. Even to this date, resistance comes my way.. but now I see it as an opportunity for me to stand firm, show the love of God, and continue to do His good works to please God the Father and no other. Yes there are times where I get discouraged, tired, and even question whether I should give up (all lies from Satan!).. but it’s because of remaining rooted, persevering, and continuing to give my best where I am seeing the fruit of the Lord more evident in my life than ever before. There is always a cost when it comes to following Jesus, but there simply is no comparison to what God gives in return (eternal riches, rewards from heaven, fruits of the spirit).
